Pest Control

Termites Control

Termite damage is often invisible until it's advanced — timber can look completely sound on the surface while being hollowed out from within. Treatment depends on whether termites are already active or whether the goal is preventing them before or during construction.

01

Active Infestations vs. Prevention

Subterranean termites travel from the soil into a building, usually leaving mud tubes along foundations or walls as their protected route between the two. Drywood termites, by contrast, live directly inside the timber itself without needing soil contact. The treatment differs accordingly: subterranean termites are dealt with by cutting off their access route through the soil, while drywood termites need the affected timber treated directly, sometimes requiring the damaged piece to be replaced if the damage is severe enough.

02

Soil & Timber Treatment

For an active subterranean infestation, we treat the soil around the foundation to create a chemical barrier the colony can't cross, cutting off the connection between the colony and the building. Affected timber — ceilings, door and window frames, structural beams, furniture — gets treated directly. Where damage has compromised structural timber, we'll tell you plainly that it needs a carpenter or structural assessment rather than treating around a problem that treatment alone can't fix.

03

Pre-Construction Soil Poisoning

For new builds or major renovations, treating the soil before the slab is laid creates a barrier that's far more effective — and considerably cheaper — than treating an established infestation after the fact. This is standard practice for any serious build in termite-prone areas of Nairobi, and worth arranging with your contractor's timeline in mind rather than as an afterthought once walls are up.

04

Early Warning Signs

Mud tubes (pencil-width, running along foundation walls or up from the soil) are the clearest sign of subterranean activity. Timber that sounds hollow when tapped, small piles of what looks like sawdust near skirting boards or door frames, or discarded wings near windows and doors after a swarm are all worth having inspected before damage spreads further.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if it’s termites and not just old wood?▾

Termite damage typically follows the grain of the wood and leaves a honeycomb-like internal pattern, while general wood ageing or rot tends to be more surface-level and uneven. If you’re not sure, an inspection is quick and will settle it before you spend money on the wrong fix.

Is soil treatment safe for a garden or existing plants nearby?▾

We apply barrier treatment in a targeted band around the foundation rather than broadcasting across garden beds, and use products labelled safe for this kind of localised application. We’ll flag it if any specific planting nearby needs extra care.

How long does a soil barrier treatment last?▾

Properly applied barrier treatments typically protect for several years, though this varies by product and soil conditions. We recommend a periodic inspection rather than waiting for visible damage to reappear before checking.
